“ | Now let's all agree. To never be, creative again. | ” |
—Sketchbook |
Sketchbook (also known as The Notepad) is the main antagonist of Don't Hug Me I'm Scared. It also made appearances in Don't Hug Me I'm Scared 2 and Don't Hug Me I'm Scared 6.
Sketchbook teaches the puppets about creativity. It is voiced by the series co-creator, Becky Sloan.
Appearance[]
It is a sketchbook with multiple pages. The main page is white with black lines for eyebrows and a mouth and two round eyes. During different scenes, Sketchbook's appearance changes as a new page is turned over. This includes multicoloured hair, a page with a light bulb, a page with a brain and the word time (with the "I" replaced with a clock), a page with leaves and sticks, a page with a realistic heart and a page depicting rain.
After Red Guy unplugs the Panel Control, Sketchbook has a blue cover instead of a black one and seems to be crossed-eyed, though that was likely just to make it look goofier.
Personality[]
Sketchbook says that it teaches people to be creative, however, it seems to be rather hypocritical towards this. For example, when Yellow Guy suggests painting a picture of a clown, it pours ink over the painting and responds with "Whoa there friend, you might need to slow down," followed by a pause before it changes the topic. Later, when Yellow Guy says that green is his favorite color, Sketchbook's response is "Green Is Not a Creative Colour" as it places a black "X" over the word.
Villainous Acts[]
- Didn't allow the puppets to be creative in their own way
- Poured oil or ink on Yellow Guy's clown picture for no reason, ruining it
- Said that green is not a creative color
- Indirectly caused the puppets to go insane and/or possibly hallucinate
- Making everyone agree to never be creative again

Trivia[]
- Sketchbook has been referred to by fans as "Paige," however, that isn't its official name; its actual name was stated as "Sketchbook" by the official website by clicking the first picture and placing the cursor at the bottom to bring up the caption.[2]
- Joe Pelling mentioned on his twitter account that Sketchbook's gender is paper. This could mean that Sketchbook's gender is literally "paper", and that it is genderless, or it was meant to be a joke.[1]
- Despite this, Becky Sloan referred to Sketchbook as "she" in one of her and Joseph's VidCon panels.[3]
- It has been widely assumed by fans that Sketchbook's gender is female; likely because its voice actor, Becky Sloan, is female.
- Sketchbook states that Green Is Not a Creative Colour, although it has a green strand in its multicolored hair.
- The scene where Yellow Guy drowns in oil in the sixth episode is played at the same time Sketchbook covers Yellow Guy's Clown Painting in oil in the first episode.
- Despite all of the other previous Teachers being brought back when Red Guy was using the Control Panel in episode 6, Sketchbook was oddly, the only one who was not summoned back. Despite this, a duplicate of it did appear at the end of the episode, after the Plug was pulled.
Behind the Scenes[]
- Sketchbook was originally meant to be a little girl puppet but Becky Sloan couldn't make one because she was really bad at making human characters.[4]
- A semi-popular ARG on the Inter-Net known colloquially by the title "Comprehension Amalgamation" once made a reference to the Sketchbook's gender being stated to be "Paper", with one of the creators of the ARG when answering in-character as one of the ARG's Protagonists identifying their pronouns as "Paper!".
